Our partner Román Gil Alburquerque has co-directed the collective work EU Labour and Employment Law. Interpretation by the Court of Justice (ECJ), which was presented in Madrid at an event organised by the Fundación FIDE, with the collaboration of the Agencia Estatal Boletín Oficial del Estado (AEBOE).
The publication provides a systematic and up-to-date analysis of the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in labour and social matters, organised by reference to EU Directives, with the aim of facilitating its interpretation and practical application in Labour and Social Security Law.
The book is jointly edited by María Emilia Casas Baamonde, Ignacio García-Perrote Escartín, Román Gil Alburquerque, Adriano Gómez García-Bernal and Antonio V. Sempere Navarro, and features contributions from 49 jurists of recognised standing. It has established itself as an essential reference for understanding the growing impact of EU Social Law on our legal system.
Among the topics analysed are issues such as the EU concept of worker and employer, equality and non-discrimination, collective dismissal, effective judicial protection, fixed-term employment, Social Security, posting of workers, social dialogue, disability and public procurement, as well as the application of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union in preliminary rulings referred by national courts.
This work constitutes the English-language version—reconfigured as a fully European book by limiting its scope to EU legislation and case law—of the Spanish-language book co-edited by FIDE and AEBOE in 2023. It has been updated and structured to facilitate the identification of relevant case law and includes a comprehensive case-law annex arranged chronologically. The publication highlights the essential need to be familiar with CJEU case law for the performance of teaching, research, judicial, administrative, legislative and professional functions in the field of Labour and Social Security Law, confirming the central role of EU Social Law within our legal system.
