Royal Decree-Law 20/2026 of 29 July: Executive Summary of the Employment and Social Security Measures
Today, Royal Decree-Law 20/2026 of 29 July, establishing urgent employment and social protection measures in response to wildfires, was published in Spain’s Official State Gazette (BOE).
The new legislation introduces an extraordinary employment protection framework for severe emergency situations, built around three key pillars:
- Protected suspension of employment contracts, accompanied by a specific benefit for affected employees.
- Enhanced work-life balance and caregiving rights for individuals impacted by the emergency.
- Financial support for self-employed workers and businesses through extraordinary benefits and Social Security contribution relief measures.
