Pompeyo Ortega is at present a tenured Professor of Labour and Social Security Law at the University of Granada, and is also a member of the Granada Bar Association. After graduating with a Degree in Law, he completed an Official Master’s Degree in Business Law, and subsequently earned a PhDcum laude in Law from the University of Granada, for which he was also awarded an international doctorate.

He has ample academic experience as a lecturer at ISDE – Law Business School, and has authored over two hundred scholarly works, including eight monographs and more than one hundred articles on doctrinal legal research published in leading specialised journals. He also works as head and collaborating researcher for several academic investigation projects and head coordinator in a number of educational projects. He is a regular speaker at scientific congresses, conferences, seminars and meetings. He has worked as a visiting lecturer and researcher in some of the most prominent universities in England, Ireland, Italy and Spain. His academic work encompasses a series of professional roles in renowned scientific journals. He is also in charge of the “Youth and Novices Section” of the AESSS (Spanish Health and Social Security Association) and a member of its board, acting as a member of the executive committee.

He has been the recipient of several awards and recognitions throughout his professional and academic career, among which the following are worth highlighting: he was awarded High Honours by the University of Granada (2022) for his doctoral dissertation (legal sciences programme) Disciplinary dismissal, the 9th Young Labour Lawyers Award by FORELAB (Spanish Employment Relations Association) (2020) for his research titled Jurisprudential issues within the emergency regulatory framework derived from coronavirus: labour law challenges to the viability of companies after the health crisis in an economic and social recession, and the International Legal Award, in the professional category, by ISDE Law Business School (2017) for his research piece The restructuring of companies: a national and international study on collective redundancies. Criticisms and proposals for lege ferenda in light of economic, technical, organisational or production-related grounds.

He was awarded the Accolade of the Royal Academy of Legislation and Jurisprudence of Seville in its 11th edition (2020) for his study Collective external flexibility actions in the restructuring of companies as a result of COVID-19, the First Prize at the 4th International Congress and 17th National Congress of the Spanish Health and Social Security Association (2020) for his piece  Delimitation of employers and workers’ liabilities concerning the Prevention of Occupational Risks,and the Andalusian Culture Foundation (FUNDECA) Award (2022) — with the collaboration of the CAJASOL Foundation — for his research work The limits of the fundamental right to free speech within the employment relationship: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and social networks.
